Top seeded Iranian Grandmaster Amin Tabatabaei is still perfect with 6 out 6 at the Reykjavik Open after a fantastic double-round day where he beat both Vasyl Ivanchuk and Maxime Lagarde, two 2600+ Grandmasters. Tabatabaei has a perfect score and a full point lead over the field after his fantastic start to the 2026 Reykjavik Open.
In the morning round, he beat Ivanchuk with the white pieces in teh French defence.
Tournament regular Zain Patel had one of the swindles of the tournament. His opponent only had to find 71…Qxg3 and he should win, instead, 71…hxg3?? happened and the rest is history…72.Qf3+! is forced stalemate!
